Description
19th Century bronze sculpture of a lady by Moreau
French, Late 19th Century
Height 70cm, width 22cm, depth 21cm
This alluring bronze depicts the full-length figure of a young lady who, swathed in draped clothing, looks downward toward a basket of flowers hung about her waist. The circular base upon which she stands is naturalistically cast as a forest woodland with flowers and foliage all around her feet.
The base is stamped 'Hte Moreau' for the sculptor Hippolyte Francois Moreau (French, 1832-1927), who was the brother of Mathurin and Auguste Moreau and the son of Jean-Baptiste Moreau. The Moreaus were all famously celebrated for their skilful contribution to the body of 19th Century French sculpture.
