Mid-century Brass & Rattan Floor Lamp Model 62047, Idman 1940s-50s

A beautiful floor lamp manufactured by Idman in Finland in the 1940s. Although this model has sometimes been attributed to Paavo Tynell, it is one of Idman’s own designs. Production continued into the 1950s, with later versions omitting the rattan detail on the stem.

The lamp features a heavy circular brass base and a slender brass stem with a rattan-wrapped section, adding warmth and texture to its restrained silhouette. An acrylic inner shade diffuses the light, while the outer shade has been remade using wooden slats. When illuminated, the slats create a gentle glow that complements the warm tones of the brass and rattan.

The lamp is stamped “Idman” underneath the base. The brass displays visible patina and surface marks, adding character to the piece. An elegant lamp for a living room, bedroom or reading corner, equally suited to Scandinavian interiors and more eclectic settings.

Idman was one of Finland’s important lighting manufacturers, producing both decorative lamps and architectural lighting. Its history included designers such as Paavo Tynell, Gunnel Nyman and Mauri Almari. In 1953, Idman acquired a majority stake in Taito Oy, bringing the two companies’ lighting workshops together in the first half of the 1950s.
