Description
This very rare floor lamp was designed by Ingrid Atterberg and produced by Upsala Ekeby in Sweden. The range of this particular design was called Pepita and was produced only between 1954 and 1956. The base is marked with the manufacturers initial UE, as well as the model number 2178 and the designers abbreviation ‘ABG’.
The lamp has a tall, elongated ceramic base that tapers gently from a wide foot to a narrow neck. The surface is covered in a geometric, hand-incised pattern of small white rhombs set against a warm brown glaze, known as the Pepita pattern. The base rests on a plain, unglazed brown foot. The extra-tall conical shade in an off-white, linen textured fabric echoes the elongated silhouette of the base and gives the lamp a striking, sculptural presence.
The lamp is in very good vintage condition. The base with minor signs of wear consistent with age and use. Rewired with 220V wiring and renewed foot switch. The custom shade is new.
Specified Dimensions:
Total height including shade: 124 cm / 48.8 in
Height of the base only (excluding shade): 70 cm / 27.6 in
Diameter of the shade: 30 cm / 11.8 in
Diameter of the base: 16 cm / 6.3 in (measured at the widest point) -
