Mid-Century Task Desk Lamp in Brass & Lucite

Throughout the years, lighting design has become more closely aligned with the world of art and sculpture, a movement which has brought us some stunning creations. This was certainly not uncommon during the Mid-Century Modern design movement, which can perhaps be seen as a precursor to today’s rich world of lighting. At the time, a plethora of new materials came to light which were far more readily available for use than ever before. This shown task lamp is a great example of assembled materiality, it brings both polished brass and lucite together in an effortless fashion.

A single rod of brass is curved to create an arc from which a generous matching brass shade is mounted. At its base, the piece stands with the very same brass rod combined with a substantial cylinder of polished solid lucite. The effect as first glance appears to be a visual illusion as the lucite refracts surrounding colors and materials. The brass shade can be adjust for optimal lighting with ease with its ball bearing fastener and the lamp can be clicked on using the in-line switch. Overall this task lamp is in very good condition with minor wear consistent with age and history.
