Description
This very rare table lamp was designed by Stig Lindberg and produced by the Studiohanden workshop at Gustavsberg in Sweden in the 1950s. The lamp is signed with ‘Stig L’ and the Studiohanden Gustavsberg logo on the bottom of the base.
The lamp base has a tapering, faceted silhouette: a narrow, elongated neck flares outward into a broad, pyramidal foot with softly angled corners. The upper section is finished in a rich, mottled glaze in tones of bronze, olive, and dark brown, with a heavily textured, almost volcanic surface. The lower section is decorated with dense rows of small, hand-pressed circular indentations, giving it a tactile, honeycomb or pebble-like relief that contrasts with the smoother glaze above. This combination of organic glazing and graphic, hand-worked texture is characteristic of Stig Lindberg’s studio work for Gustavsberg.
The cylinder shaped shade is renewed in an ivory color, beautifully textured Dedar fabric. The lamp is in very good condition with only very minor wear consistent with age and use, and has been rewired for 220V.
