Description
An important pair of late 18th century Chinoiserie wallpaper panels in gilt frames featuring scenes of pleasure gardens. The hand-painted papers feature a palette orange, pinks, yellows, gold on a celadon ground. Humans in traditional costume, birds, flowers and even a dog are finely drawn, and executed by an extremely skilled hand. The scenes are pleasing: one depicts a summer house and figures under a towering tree filled with birds, and the other a garden fence and figures with a dog, also under a flowering tree. Very decorative and of impressive scale.
