Description
The great portfolio of Charles & Ray Eames is widely celebrated and serves as a model of inspiration for designers to this day. One of their most recognizable designs is the Aluminum Group collection which Herman Miller continues to produce to this day. The collection began as a commission for outdoor seating in the early 1950’s for the home of J. Irwin & Xenia Miller, known as Miller House, in Columbus, Indiana. While the Eames’ masterful engineering of this new design became a production hit at Herman Miller in 1958, their original outdoor variation which started it all simply did not withstand the elements. Today, Herman Miller has put the outdoor version back into production made possible by modern-day materials.
Herman Miller has adapted the Eames Aluminum Group Dining Chair into a durable outdoor-grade design piece by cleverly strengthening each component of the chair. The Herman Miller “Outdoor Weave” was developed to mimic the original Alexander Girard textile employed by Charles & Ray, but based on the woven construction from the company’s famed modern day Aeron Chair. The Outdoor Weave contains no PVC and will maintain both its color and shape over time. Lastly, the iconic aluminum frame of the chair has been completed powder coated in a sleek Gunmetal Gray. The combination of the Outdoor Weave sling and powder coated frame create a chair which is capable of withstanding the unpredictable elements of the outdoors.
We have a large quantity of these Eames Outdoor Aluminum Group Chairs and can sell them as singles or sets of any quantity. They are perfect for use in the outdoors as well as indoors. They can accent an intimate conversation nook, huddle a fire pit, or surround a dining table; the options are endless. Each chair is in very good condition with minor wear consistent with age and history. Due to the integrity of these chairs the wear is difficult to see, however please review our photographs for examples. Each chair is equipped with a swivel mechanism and they are all in working order. -

Message from Seller:
Stories exist in many forms, we see them in objects. The aesthetic of those before us is passed down through their surviving creations. These are the objects we search for; to preserve, refine, & continue the story. Object Refinery combines design obsession, fine craftsmanship, and a love for history in our worldwide search for objects. Based in Connecticut, USA; we partner with a network of local artisans to restore and refine our findings before passing them on to the next collector.
