Description
This rare armchair was designed by Runar Engblom for the Vaakuna Hotel in Helsinki in 1951. The chair was specifically produced for the hotel interior by the Finnish manufacturer Boman. The curved, round shape gives the chair a striking appearance. The slighty tapered legs are in solid ash wood. The chair is upholstered in a patterned light beige/cream fabric with a buttoned back. The high back and well thought out dimensions make this a very comfortable chair. The chair is in overall very good condition. The fabric with a few minor marks from previous use. Reupholstery in a fabric of your choice by our master upholsterer can be arranged, please contact us to learn more about the possibilities. The Vaakuna hotel building in Helsinki was designed by the Finnish architect Erkki Huttunen in 1947. Runar Engblom was responsible for the interior furnishings while Paavo Tynell designed all the lighting. The opening ceremony of the hotel took place on 10 June 1952, right before the Olympic Games in Helsinki. See the last image of this listing for the top floor restaurant lobby of the hotel with the Runar Engblom chairs and Paavo Tynell chandeliers.
