French 18th Century Louis XVI Period Commode
-
Description
An exceptional Louis XVI period (18th century) marble-topped commode from France, incorporating multiple wood elements with classic details that could suit a wide range of decorating tastes today. The marble top surface exhibits fine veining, a honed surface, and shaped in turreted corners. Each of the three paneled drawers have maple drawer fronts framed in rosewood for unexpected yet luxurious contrast; likely original brass hardware of bail pulls and repoussé escutcheons over the nonoperational locks that would have used a clover-key. Fluted legs carved from mahogany descend from the turrets at the corners before tapering at the floor. The side panels follow the mixed woods of the front with dark trim around the rippled maple that glows in the light. Cleaned, tightened, and polished with a French paste wax this antique dresser is ready for your interior. Please view the detailed images.
