This captivating French desk from the 19th century is illustrated with a border of highly detailed marquetry of contrasting mahogany to stand out from the walnut & fruitwood construction. Each inlaid panel alternates between geometric, heraldic (Flemish Lion), or foliate themes using a coded visual language alluding to the historical and cultural context when it was produced. The apron reveals a hidden pen drawer–free of hardware–the interior splashed with teal ink. Four square, tapering legs support the whole.
