Description
A set of four circa 1825 Chinese Export polychrome reverse glass paintings comprised of figural court views and battle scenes in original 'Chinese Chippendale' parcel-gilt aubergine lacquer frames and reverse backboards. A remarkable and exceptionally rare set of good size and condition.
Provenance: Legendary fine English antiques dealers Jackson-Mitchell, Inc. of Wilmington, DE (fl. 1968 -2002), private English collection prior, private Greenwich, CT collection thence. -

Origin: China Period: 19th Century Materials: Hand-painted glass, hand-carved, lacquered, and gilt wood Condition: Good. Set in phenomenal condition for age and medium. One panel with non-detracting minor loss to upper left corner glass with associated paint loss, minor paint-loss to lower right corner. Frames with wear; all present beautifully. Measurements approx.
