British Sailor’s Woolwork, or “Woolie”

This vibrant woolwork depicts a Royal Navy frigate anchored in a peaceful bay, with colorful threads capturing the ship, a schooner under sail, and coastal scenery. Made by a 19th-century sailor, “woolies” like this served as creative expressions and mementos for sailors — reflecting both everyday life and nostalgia for the age of sail.

Carved Lion After Tribute to Swiss Guards

The Swiss Guard lost their lives protecting Louis XVI in August of 1792. To commemorate their honor, a resting lion with an inscription was carved in a rock relief; this is an exact copy in apple or pear wood. You can still see the carving in Lucerne, Switzerland today.

The "Louisa Morgan" was built in Coos Bay, Oregon around 1868 by John Howlett for Morgan & Company to transport oysters from the Northwest to the San Francisco area. She was lost during an 1878 voyage from San Francisco to Wilmington, CA and Mazatlan, Mexico.
