English Pearlware Mocha Pottery Jug with Cat's Eye Design
Staffordshire, Northern England, circa 1810–1820

This exceptional pearlware jug exemplifies the sophistication of early 19th-century Mocha ware. Rising from a simple foot to a gracefully flared neck and spout, it is distinguished by its masterful, multi-tiered decoration. The lower body features two rhythmic bands of jewel-like "cat’s eye" motifs — concentric drops of blue, yellow, and black slip — encircling the jug in vibrant medallions. Above, a central engine-turned green band and flanking gray slip borders, all meticulously delineated, contrast the organic "cat’s eye" with crisp geometric refinement. A striking fusion of technical skill and artistry, this jug is a superb example of Staffordshire's inventive ceramic tradition.

Dimensions: 6 in. high × 7-3/4 in. wide × 5-1/2 in. deep
