The fun twist on the Twelve Days of Christmas Show is that each dealer in the show will post one fresh piece each day, beginning on December 5th and running through December 16th.

Jamaica was a source of many hardwoods used in English furniture, though furniture made in Jamaica was uncommon before Ralph Turnbull (1788–1865) emigrated to the island. He was Scottish and known for his specimen, parquetry designs. Jamaican circa 1850.

Late 17th Century Drawing 

Pen and brown ink, brush and gray wash on paper attributed to Georg Philipp Rugendas (1666–1742) bears a period ink inscription in bottom margin “Georg Philipp Rugendas geboren 1666” which in our opinion identifies the artist.

Rugendas was a battle and military genre painter and engraver born in the Free Imperial City of Augsburg in what is now Bavaria, Germany.

EDWARD MITCHELL BANNISTER (1833–1901)

This painting is included in the Bannister catalogue raisonné.

Bannister was the first African American artist to win national recognition.

He earned First Prize at the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exposition, despite an attempt by

the jury to revoke his Bronze Medal when they became aware of his race. Fellow artists

ensured that he received the award he deserved.
