Easy Chair

$ 23,500
  • Description
    Northeastern Massachusetts, probably Boston.
    Ca. 1760.
    Walnut, maple seat frame.
    Over-all in great condition, minor repair to one side stretcher.
    Several stylistic features distinguish this easy chair as a product of Northeastern Massachusetts, most likely Boston. The wings on the sides tend to drop below the profile of the serpentine crest ends which are then supported by elongated, tapering cone arm rests. Another Boston area attribute is the distinct character of the peaked crest ends and how the form is repeated in the stylish flaring tips of the medial and rear stretchers. Lastly, the seat is supported by cabriole legs with rounded knees ending on cushioned pad feet.
