    Possibly New York State or New England.
    Artist unidentified, painted around 1838.
    Oil on tulipwood panels.
    30 x 24”, 34 x 28” with frames.
    Over-all in great condition, housed in period gilt wood frames (see full condition report).

    Although originally found in western New York, the Thompson family presumably moved up the Erie Canal in the early 19th c., according to family history, from Connecticut. Purchased by Peter Tillou in 1967, the portraits have remained in his private collection, then by descent to present date.
