Description
Portrait of a Curly Haired Dog
American, unsigned, late 19th c.
Oil on canvas.
32” x 26” (with frame).
Retaining the original carved walnut frame with gilt liner. Over-all in wonderful condition, minor stretcher bar impressions.
This wonderful stylized profile portrait of a black and white, presumably Newfoundland, dog wearing a collar is painted in a folky manner. Along with the texture of the raised-painted curly hair fur, the dog’s whimsical smile and posture add to its charm and desirability.
