Description
California studio craft filing cabinet designed by Jim Sweeney, Berkeley, circa 1983. The cabinet is handcrafted of solid Koa wood, and features two filing drawers with boldly exposed joinery on the cabinet and drawers. The cabinets have been professionally restored in a natural oil finish to highlight the exquisite wood grains and joinery.
Koa wood is a highly prized and valuable wood species that is endemic to the Hawaiian Islands known for its beautiful, rich, reddish-brown color and striking grain patterns. Koa is particularly valued for its strength, durability, and resistance to water and insects. Koa has been treasured by Hawaiians for centuries and has been used for a wide range of purposes, including for canoes, surfboards, furniture, and musical instruments. Koa wood is a dense and hard tone wood that is prized by luthiers for its acoustic properties. Koa is a rare, exotic wood, and a protected species in the State of Hawaii.
