An exquisite dining table in cast brass and rare "Cremo Delicato" marble from Carrara, Italian manufacture, design by Paolo Buffa, 1950s.

Slender yet structured cast brass legs support the marble top with an almost weightless grace. The combination of these two materials, each known for its remarkable durability, evokes a sense of timelessness.

This distinctive dining table bears the signature of Paolo Buffa, a designer active during a golden era of Italian architecture and decoration. From the 1930s to the 1940s, Buffa developed a highly personal interpretation of the period’s aesthetic, blending his neoclassically inspired visual education with influences from Art Deco and Italian Liberty. As in many of his works, a reference to the natural world—perceptible in the delicate Art Nouveau-like fluidity of the legs—is also present in this rare dining table.

Curiously, wood, a material synonymous with Buffa’s furniture production, is entirely absent from this design. As in a few rare examples of his coffee tables, this deliberate omission highlights his aesthetic vision. Through this dining table, Buffa seems to affirm the possibility of evoking a pure, ethereal, yet elegant presence using materials traditionally chosen for their solidity and physical substance. A simple structure. Absolute dignity of form.
