This rare table lamp was manufactured by J.T. Kalmar in Austria in the early 1950s and exemplifies the refined craftsmanship of postwar Austrian lighting design.
The striking sculptural base features a three-legged brass structure, each leg adorned with decorative scroll details. The central stem is executed in bamboo, a material choice characteristic of 1950s Austrian lighting. This organic element appears frequently in designs by J.T. Kalmar, as well as contemporaries such as Rupert Nikoll and Carl Auböck, and reflects the era’s fascination with natural materials and modern form.
The slightly tapered shade has been newly crafted in an ivory-toned silk fabric by Colefax & Fowler, providing a soft, refined contrast to the warm brass. A brass finial mounted atop the shade completes the composition.
The lamp is in overall good vintage condition, with original brass showing a desirable natural patina. The shade has been renewed, and the lamp has been rewired with European 220V wiring.
