Roxane Lahidji
French, 1992
Roxane Lahidji is a visionary in the field of social design, specializing in the development and application of ecological materials. Her research is centered on the creation of opulent objects and surfaces using cost-effective and raw materials.
In her work, she endeavors to redefine the very essence of the objects she crafts, achieving a harmonious balance between local and renewable resources, environmentally sustainable production processes, and fundamental human values. Committed to the synergy of production and sustainability, her designs breathe new life into overlooked or inexpensive materials, incorporating low-tech methods and traditional craft techniques. She describes her design practice as an alchemical journey, employing unique transformative and molding processes.
Born in Paris in 1992, Roxane Lahidji spent her formative years in the French capital before embarking on studies in illustration and product design at Strasbourg's HEAR. Following her graduation from the Social Design department of the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2017, Roxane Lahidji initiated her 'Marbled Salts' project. Her exceptional talent was acknowledged when she was named among the top 100 French international designers, earning the prestigious FD100 prize from VIA. She further solidified her status in the design world by winning the 2019 Bolia award. Recently, Wallpaper magazine recognized her work, particularly her Yubiwa side table, as among the "best elements of surprises."
Roxane Lahidji's creations have now transcended borders, being sold, shipped, and exhibited internationally in galleries and museums. Her pieces have found a home in renowned institutions such as the Design Museum of Ghent, the CID Grand Hornu, and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Paris, where they have become a part of their permanent design collections.
