Large Belgian Light Walnut Color Butcher Block with Marker's Plaque, circa 1890
-
Description
A Belgian large size butcher block table with its maker's plaque, original brass or bronze hardware, two drawers and reeded legs from the late 19th century. This butcher block was born in Brussels during the later years of the 19th century. The rectangular well-worn top comprises a knife holder in the back and is surmounted by a wooden slab decorated with the maker's mark that reads "Pierre Gyssels - Fabricant - Chaussée de Mons, 69 - Bruxelles". The sides are strengthened with corner braces. Two large dovetailed drawers adorn the apron and open thanks to their original ring pulls. The ensemble is raised on five reeded legs visually connected to one another by a beautifully scalloped apron on three sides. The beautiful contrast between the aged patina, worn appearance of the top and graceful lines of the lower section will make this French light walnut color butcher block circa 1890 a perfect addition to a large kitchen or breakfast room.
