Swedish Neoclassical Style Painted Wood Longcase Clock with Carved Palmette
-
Description
A Swedish early 19th century neoclassical style longcase painted wood clock with carved crest, circular head and linear body. This Swedish painted wood grandfather clock features an exquisite crest, adorned with a carved palmette flanked with small round finials. The face is decorated with a leaf-adorned door, topped with a carved foliage. The date 1817 is painted on the face. The head is resting on a dentil molding, so dear to the Gustavian era. The linear shaped body is flanked with thin Ionic half-columns, beautifully highlighting the verticality of the piece. The dentil molding is repeated in the upper section of the base, which is exquisitely accented by a Neoclassical looking swag. With its elegant slender silhouette and light grey color, typical of the Scandinavian palette, this Swedish painted wood clock will highlight any décor beautifully, from a kitchen to a foyer to a living room. We would be happy to discuss quartzing the clock with you to bring it to a working condition.
