The prestigious Winter Antiques Show will be celebrating its 63rd year this week. At the Park Avenue Armory in New York City, collectors, designers, and curators will vie for the best works on the market, from antiquity through the present, showcased by seventy-three exhibitors. One third of the exhibitors are specialists in Americana, while their colleagues will feature English, European, and Asian fine and decorative arts. Every object exhibited is vetted for authenticity, date, and condition by a committee of 160 experts from the United States and Europe. Bernard & S. Dean Levy, Elliott & Grace Snyder Antiques, Hyde Park Antiques, Kelly Kinzle Antiques, Throckmorton Fine Art, Tillou Antiques, Olde Hope Antiques, Adelson Galleries, Arader Galleries, Bernard Goldberg Fine Arts, Hirschl & Adler Galleries, Schwarz Gallery, The Old Print Shop, Thomas Colville Fine Art, Donzella, Liz O’Brien, Lost City Arts, Todd Merrill Studio, A La Vieille Russie, Kentshire, and Macklowe Gallery are all among the exceptional roster of dealers exhibiting at the show. This year’s Honorary Design Chairs are Jamie Drake and Caleb Anderson of Drake/Anderson, Celerie Kemble, and Miles Redd. The Winter Antiques Show's 2017 loan exhibition, Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum: Revolution & Evolution, honors the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum, one of the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. New collectors, emerging philanthropists, and art and design enthusiasts can attend the Young Collectors Night on January 26 from 7–9 pm for a private viewing of the show, and the opportunity to meet luminary New York-based interior designers over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. More than 100 designers serve on the Interior Design Committee for this special evening. All net proceeds from the show benefit East Side House Settlement, a nationally recognized community-based organization in the South Bronx that has worked for over 125 years to bring quality education and resources to immigrants and lower-income families in some of America’s poorest neighborhoods.

For eighteen years, the New York Ceramics & Glass Fair has brought together the best in all things “fired”—glass, ceramics, pottery and enamel—as the only exposition of its kind in the country. Bottles, beakers, jewelry, jars, vases, and all manner of beautiful yet fragile art will be showcased, dating from 500 years ago in 16th-century Venice, Italy to present-day Venice, California. The star of this year’s show, however, is a small white ceramic bowl dating from about 1770, uncovered during an archaeological excavation in Philadelphia. It is the first physical proof of American-made true hard-paste porcelain ever found. Until its discovery, scholars had found documents indicating that hard-paste porcelain, known for its degree of translucency and perfected in 7th-century China, was made in America during Revolutionary times, but no objects had been found to corroborate this. Called the “Holy Grail” of American ceramics, this bowl will be exhibited for the first time at this year’s New York Ceramics & Glass Fair. The fair will take place on the fourth and fifth floors of the Bohemian National Hall. Tickets are $20 per person, and can be used for admission throughout the duration of the fair.
